SOBY VOCAL STUDIO
Private Voice and Piano Study for Students of All Ages
An active teacher in the greater Miami area, Kimberly has been teaching private voice and piano lessons for ten years. With students ages 6 and up, Kimberly provides piano instruction for students at all levels, prepares advanced high school singers for college music auditions, teaches undergraduates from outside the department who wish to continue rigorous private vocal studies, and helps vocational adults fulfill their dreams of learning to sing.
Kimberly’s students are frequently selected for All-State and regional honors choirs, successfully audition for high school and college-level select ensembles, and have been accepted with scholarships at prestigious music and theater conservatory programs including The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Florida State University, University of Memphis, University of Miami, Harvard University, Elon University, Vanderbilt University, University of Chicago, Yale University, and Sarah Lawrence College. Additionally, her students have won prizes at such competitions and programs as Broadway World, YoungArts, Downbeat Magazine, and NATS on the local and regional levels.
As a vocal coach and accompanist, Kimberly has prepared several choirs at the high school and college levels. As a studio pianist, she has collaaborated with a variety of instrumentalists on their recitals and masterclasses. In addition, she has served as Music Director for productions and events at New World, and currently serves as Music Director for the Musical Miracles at Actors Playhouse in Coral Gables, FL.
She has served on the faculties of New World School of the Arts and Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, she serves as audition chair for the Florida Gold Coast chapter of NATS and is a past president. She is a 2018 recipient of the NATS Emerging Leader Award and has also been recognized for her teaching by the YoungArts Foundation.
As a pianist who began at five years old, I relish the opportunity to not only teach the youngest of beginners but also use my appreciable skills to teach pianists of all ages and levels. From beginning fundamentals to jazz harmony, comping, and Beethoven sonatas, I am able to tailor lessons to fit the needs and interests of the student.
A classically trained singer, I have many years of experience teaching not only classical but in musical theater and contemporary commercial music styles. I believe that everyone can sing and should have the opportunity to unlock their inner diva! Additionally, I provide in every voice lesson music theory training, as reading music is important across instruments.
As a former professor, I understand the need for powerful and appropriate audition repertoire. Preparing my students for both high school auditions and to go on to college programs, I have had great success in helping them stand out with their unique repertoire that highlights their technique where it stands.
